On February 18th 2017 some of our staff will be jumping in Highland Lake to raise funds for Harvest Hills Animal Shelter. Our fund raising goal this year is $7,500!! If you would like to donate to this great event please stop by the hospital any time before the big dip!!

  • Steven Caffrey, DVM, Practice Owner

    Dr. Caffrey graduated from the University of Illinois in 1985.  He moved to Fryeburg with his wife Lois and opened the Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital in 1987.  His mission was to create a warm and caring hospital with a high standard of care and personal service.  In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, especially in the outdoors.  He has 3 children, Jennie, Peter, and Ben.  The Caffrey family also includes 3 cats, one goat, one horse and chickens.

  • Scott Johnson, VMD, Practice Owner

    Dr. Johnson graduated from the University of Maine in 1987 and from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991.  He worked at the Norway Veterinary Hospital for several years before settling in Fryeburg.  He is licensed in Maine and New Hampshire and enjoys being a general practitioner of small animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry.  He resides with his growing family in Fryeburg.

  • Susan Simkins, DVM, Practice Owner

    Dr. Susan (Gilliland) Simkins has been practicing at Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital since shortly after her graduation from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1995.  She enjoys living here in Western Maine with her husband, 2 children, 4 cats, and 2 dogs.

  • Edward Simkins, DVM

    Ted is a graduate of Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, and has practiced in the area since 1995.  He joined the Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital in March, 2009.  His professional interests include ultrasound and cardiology.  With family roots in Maine, he finds comfort with local people and natural surroundings.  He enjoys his leisure time with his wife, Susan, and their two children.

  • Taylor Goldberg, DVM

    Taylor is a graduate of Tufts University and has been with the Fryeburg Veterinary Team since graduating in June of 2013.  She loves all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery, especially preventative medicine and dermatology. Taylor lives in Madison with her Chihuahua Moxie and her two wonderful cats. In her spare time she likes to spend time enjoying the outdoors!

  • Caitlin Murphy, DVM

    Dr. Caitlin Murphy is the most recent addition to our staff.  She is a recent graduate from Iowa State University.  Caitlin grew up in Bar Harbor Maine and graduated from the University of Maine Orono in 2012.  After her time in the Midwest she knew the Northeast was where she wanted to hang her stethoscope.  Dr.  Murphy loves animals of all shapes and sizes, but she has a strong interest in exotic animals such as rodents, avian species and reptiles.  Outside of work Dr. Murphy can be found concurring the 4000 footers and exploring new places in the valley as well as spending time with family and friends.  She is very excited to see a variety of cases and increase her passion of veterinary medicine.

  • Jenn MacDonald, Management Staff

    Jenn started as part of our Reception team in 2009.  She worked closely with management for several years before stepping into the role of Practice Manager. She juggles numerous work roles any day of the week.  In her free time Jenn can be found near any body of water with her four year old daughter.  Jenn is an avid skier and  snowboarder and enjoys any outdoor activity our valley has to offer.

  • Jennifer, Head Technician

    Jennifer lives in Fryeburg with her four English Springer Spaniels and one wonderful character of a cat , Oscar. She is very proud to have been a part of the Fryeburg Veterinary Team since 2004. Jennifer enjoys surgery, dentistry ,dental radiography and has a special interest in canine reproduction.  In her spare time Jennifer can be found training with her dogs, gardening , or indulging in a Game Of Thrones Marathon.

  • Kelly, Technician Staff

    Kelly has been with the Fryeburg Veterinary Staff since 2007.  She started in our kennel and quickly showed interest and skill in the many facets of the technician world.  She lives in Fryeburg with her husband Carl and Menagerie of dogs. Kelly has a special interest in  anesthesia protocol and can be found most Mondays keeping up with the busy surgery days of Dr. Johnson!! She is fast, efficient, and a meticulous in her care of hospitalized animals.   If you see her out of the hospital it will likely be fishing on the lakes, snowboarding the mountains, or jumping into frozen ponds to raise money for shelter animals.

  • Lori, Technician Staff

    Lori has been with the Fryeburg Veterinary Staff since 2008.  Her special interests include dentistry and working in our laboratory.  Lori has a fondness for Great Danes and loves to see the giant breed when ever they are visiting the hospital.  Currently, there is a Great Dane and a St. Bernard mix taking over her house in Ossipee, along with 3 cats, 6 chickens, 2 horses and a variety of foster animals.  Her daughter enjoys helping out with the animal care and her husband would like to see less animals living at their house.  In her spare time she enjoys skiing, riding motorcycles and horses.

  • Sarah, CVT, Technician Staff


    Sarah has been with the Fryeburg Veterinary Technician staff since 2010.  She has a Veterinary Assistant Degree from Apollo College. She obtained her liscence in 2009.  After living in Wisconsin and Oregon, Sarah has settled in Conway New Hampshire with her ten year old son. They currently have four cats and two dogs. Sarah's passions at FVH include dental cleanings and working closely with young kittens in need of intensive care. She is our go to girl for patients in need of a great grooming...especially the sassy old lady cats! In her free time she is out of doors on our mountains and in our lakes and rivers.

    Mary started with Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital in 2004.  She began as a part time kennel tech. and then trained her way up to a full time technician position.   After taking a brief time off to acclimate to life with young school children she returned to our technician staff in 2016.    She lives in Brownfield with her husband Matthew and their two young boys.  Their home is currently filled with three cats, two dogs and several chickens.  Mary can be found in her flower gardens, walking in the woods or enjoying family time reading on the hammock.

    Erica has been with our veterinary technician staff since graduating from the University of Maine Bangor in the spring of 2013.  Erica really enjoys the areas of treatment rounds and surgery. She has become a great asset to our team. When she is not taking care of hospital patients Erika can be found on the lake with her boyfriend enjoying some serious boating or kicking up her heels at a good country music concert.  She lives in Naples Maine where she keeps busy with her great big love of a Bull Mastiff ,Caesar and her two wonderful kittens Hank and Grey.

  • Mindy,LVT, Technician Staff

    Mindy graduated form the University of Maine -Bangor in 2013 with a degree in veterinary technology.  Mindy joined the Fryeburg Veterinary Technician team in the spring of 2015.   She also has recently passed the board exam to become a liscensed technician.  Mindy has a herd of animals in her life that include four dogs, one horse, and at least a dozen chickens.  She loves all aspects of her job as a veterinary technician and can not imagine her self doing anything else.

  • Courtney, LVT, Technician Staff

    Courtney has been living in the Mount Washington Valley since 2010.  Courtney enjoys life along side her fiance and two very silly cats, Slim and Chompy.  She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife and Conservation Biology from the University of Rhode Island.  Courtney worked for various local and federal government agencies studying migratory birds before pursuing a career as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.  She joined the Fryeburg Veterinary team in 2015 and  loves the bustling environment as well as the incredibly helpful and caring staff.    Courtney loves a good snuggle but is always up for the challenge of caring for any animal that is in our hospital.  When she is not at work, she can be found hiking and birding, or singing and dancing on stage in the local theater.

    Joshlyne joined the Fryeburg Veterinary Team in late 2015.  She moved to the valley after receiving her Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology from Northwestern Connecticut Community College.   She lives in North Conway with her boyfriend and their cat Edward and Guinea pig Oliver.  Joshlyne is always spoiling the staff with her amazing baking treats.  She is enjoying discovering the valley through hiking and loves a good book.

  • Shelby, Kennel Tech Staff

    Shelby lives with her family in Porter Maine.  She has a Veterinary Assistant Certificate through US Career Institute and is working on becoming a Veterinary Technician through her hands on work at FVH and Penn Foster on-line certification. Shelby has been with FVH since late 2015.    She is an avid outdoor lover and can be found restoring old farm tractors with her grandfather or spending quality time with her family and boyfriend Colby.   Shelby is always willing to help with any task thrown her way.  She loves working closely with hospitalized animals.  She has a bit of an obsession with Golden Retievers!!

  • Donna, Reception Staff

    Donna has been a part of the Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital reception team since 2005.  She lives in North Conway with her husband Steve.  Donna has two grown children and now has recently become a Grandmother to two beautiful grandsons.   Her knowledge behind the desk at the Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital is exceptional.  She is always eager to meet new patients as well as extend a warm hello to our long time clients.

  • Emberly, Reception Staff

    Emberly has been with the Fryeburg Veterinary Reception staff since 2008.  She lives in Center Conway with a Pounce of cats ..at last count it was 6!  Emberly has a varied background that includes many years working to educate children about the great outdoors through her work at the Tin Mountain Conservation Center.   She is very active in the dance community, is an avid photographer and an exceptional artist.   She has an eye for detail and is always available to help lend a hand in the hospital.

  • Arlene, Reception Staff

    Arlene has been with our Reception Staff since 2004.  After taking a brief hiatus for a few years,  Arlene is back as a full time member of our staff.  She lives in Fryeburg with her 3 cats and 1 horse. Arlene is an avid horseman and can be found working with her horse or taking photographs of her furry friends most any time. Arlene loves any outdoor activity and is an advocate for all animals. Arlene always brings the fun to our work environment and can usually be found making her rounds to ensure the cats in the hospital have the coziest of beds!!

  • Christine, Reception Staff

    Christine has been with the Fryeburg Veterinary reception team since 2007.  After a brief break from the hospital, as she is a full time teacher, she came back as a part time member of  our team.  Her knowledge and patience at our front desk is exceptional.   Christine has two dogs and a cat.  She is always helping give a little extra attention and cuddles to the shelter animals that come through our hospital.  When she is not loving on the kittens she sometimes takes home for the night, she enjoys being outdoors in our beautiful mountains.

  • Kim, Reception Staff

    Kim has been with our reception staff since late 2015.  She has quickly learned the ropes and become a great asset to our hospital.  Kim lives in Conway with her husband and their five dogs. She has five grown children and five grandchildren. She spent twenty years as a breeder of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and is always thrilled to meet any new pups that may come through the door.  Kim loves to be by the Ocean, enjoys Kayaking and spends her well earned quiet time exploring fiber arts.
